If you also want to manage inventory, production or customer relationships in the same tool, Business Central's scope becomes decisive.

The structural difference plays out in the working environment. Business Central is designed for Microsoft 365: your teams work in Excel and Outlook, and the ERP integrates without a third-party connector, with Power BI included for reporting and Power Automate for automation. For an SMB whose finance lead lives in Excel and whose salespeople live in Outlook, that is a concrete productivity gain. Cegid offers its own reporting tools and bridges, but the integration remains that of a third-party vendor towards Microsoft. If your company is not in the Microsoft ecosystem, this argument naturally loses weight.

A frequent and pragmatic architecture is in fact to have both coexist: Business Central for the business and management, a specialist package for payroll, with a clean interface between the two.
