Cegid vs Dynamics 365 Business Central: Which to Choose in 2026?

Cegid draws its strength from deep expertise in French accounting, tax and payroll. On those topics, the vendor tracks French regulatory changes very closely, and its foothold among chartered accountants makes exchanges with your firm easier. That is a real advantage it would be dishonest to downplay. Business Central plays on another field: it natively covers finance, purchasing, sales, inventory, production, projects and CRM in a single database. If your need is limited to accounting and payroll, Cegid does the job. If you also want to manage inventory, production or customer relationships in the same tool, Business Central's scope becomes decisive.

The structural difference plays out in the working environment. Business Central is designed for Microsoft 365: your teams work in Excel and Outlook, and the ERP integrates without a third-party connector, with native Power BI connectors for reporting and Power Automate for automation. Note that the Power BI licenses needed to share dashboards are not included in Business Central (Power BI Pro: €12.10 excluding VAT per user per month, checked on 6 October 2026). For an SMB whose finance lead lives in Excel and whose salespeople live in Outlook, that is a concrete productivity gain. Cegid offers its own reporting tools and bridges, but the integration remains that of a third-party vendor towards Microsoft. If your company is not in the Microsoft ecosystem, this argument naturally loses weight.

Let's be clear, because this is the point that most often settles the debate. Business Central does not do French payroll. Microsoft does not cover that domain, which is highly country-specific. In practice, a French SMB adopting Business Central keeps a dedicated payroll package (Cegid, Silae, PayFit or another) and interfaces it with the ERP. That is not a problem in itself, it is a very common and well-mastered architecture, but it must be anticipated in the project and the budget. Conversely, if your absolute priority is to have accounting and payroll in a homogeneous whole from a single French vendor, Cegid has a strong argument.

Ask yourself three questions. One: does your need go beyond accounting and payroll? If you have to manage inventory, production, projects or CRM, the complete ERP wins. Two: are you equipped with Microsoft 365? If so, native integration weighs heavily day to day. Three: what is your relationship with your chartered accountant? If your firm works on Cegid and the smoothness of that exchange is strategic, that genuinely counts. A frequent and pragmatic architecture is in fact to have both coexist: Business Central for the business and management, a specialist package for payroll, with a clean interface between the two.
